Au gros maillage form\u00e9 d\u2019abord par les lignes desservant Brest ou Quimper, il a fallu ajouter des r\u00e9seaux secondaires, notamment pour irriguer le centre Bretagne. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" src=\"https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/carte-Carhaix-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-583\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5791328868523087;object-fit:cover;width:327px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/carte-Carhaix-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/carte-Carhaix-768x485.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/carte-Carhaix.jpg 791w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est la Compagnie de l\u2019Ouest qui a obtenu en 1883 la concession pour la r\u00e9alisation des travaux. Elle en confia l&rsquo;exploitation, par convention du 05 mars 1886, \u00e0 la Compagnie G\u00e9n\u00e9rale des Chemins de Fer \u00e9conomiques. La premi\u00e8re ligne, reliant Morlaix depuis Carhaix, fut inaugur\u00e9e en 189. Elle forme la premi\u00e8re des cinq branches de la fameuse \u00ab&nbsp;\u00e9toile de fer&nbsp;\u00bb qui dessine peu \u00e0 peu le r\u00e9seau breton, \u00e9tendu jusqu\u2019en 1925, pour constituer, avec 427 km de voies, un des plus importants r\u00e9seau de France \u00e0 voie m\u00e9trique. Les trains pouvaient rallier la banlieue de Rennes (La Brohini\u00e8re), jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Camaret. L\u2019exploitation du R\u00e9seau Breton a \u00e9t\u00e9 conc\u00e9d\u00e9e \u00e0 la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9rale des chemins de fer \u00e9conomiques, rebaptis\u00e9e CFTA dans les ann\u00e9es 60, l\u2019anc\u00eatre de Transdev&nbsp;Rail. Pour des raisons \u00e9conomiques, le choix a \u00e9t\u00e9 fait d\u2019un \u00e9cartement des voies plus \u00e9troit (un m\u00e8tre, voie m\u00e9trique), que l\u2019\u00e9cartement standard des voies en France (1,435 m\u00e8tre).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Cela co\u00fbtait moins cher \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer, avec moins d\u2019emprise fonci\u00e8re au sol, moins de mat\u00e9riaux demand\u00e9s&nbsp;\u00bb, explique Ernest Manac\u2019h, retrait\u00e9 de la CFTA, et pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019Association des Amis du r\u00e9seau breton.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"698\" src=\"https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Reseaux_ferres_en_Bretagne.svg_-1024x698.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-612\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.4670616448018057;width:529px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Reseaux_ferres_en_Bretagne.svg_-1024x698.png 1024w, https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Reseaux_ferres_en_Bretagne.svg_-300x205.png 300w, https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Reseaux_ferres_en_Bretagne.svg_-768x524.png 768w, https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Reseaux_ferres_en_Bretagne.svg_-1536x1048.png 1536w, https:\/\/lesamisdureseaubreton.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Reseaux_ferres_en_Bretagne.svg_-2048x1397.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Les voies m\u00e9triques peuvent aussi se faufiler plus facilement dans le paysage, permettant des rayons de courbures plus r\u00e9duits, et \u00e9vitent la construction de co\u00fbteux ouvrages d\u2019art. Le r\u00e9seau transporte des voyageurs et des marchandises, au plus pr\u00e8s des besoins du territoire. Et c\u2019est \u00e0 Carhaix que bat son c\u0153ur, \u00e0 la gare et dans ses ateliers, o\u00f9 est assur\u00e9e toute la maintenance du mat\u00e9riel roulant du r\u00e9seau. La gare de Carhaix est alors la plus grande gare en France \u00e0 voie m\u00e9trique. Au plus fort de l\u2019activit\u00e9 du r\u00e9seau breton, elle compte pr\u00e8s d\u2019une trentaine de voies, pas moins de 70 aiguillages, pour orienter les trains notamment vers les trav\u00e9es des ateliers. Des quartiers autour de la gare &#8211; rue du Maroc, rue Pierre S\u00e9mard \u2013 sont construits, pour accueillir les cheminots et leurs familles. Plus petits, ils ont aussi dur\u00e9 moins longtemps. L\u2019essor du transport routier aura finalement raison du r\u00e9seau breton et de son trac\u00e9 originel ne subsiste plus que la ligne Carhaix-Guingamp-Paimpol, convertie en voie standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-6c531013 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>Sur les autres lignes d\u00e9class\u00e9es, on trouve des portions r\u00e9am\u00e9nag\u00e9es en voies vertes \u2013 pistes cyclables ou chemins de randonn\u00e9e. C\u2019est aussi sur une ancienne portion de la ligne Carhaix \u2013 Loud\u00e9ac, entre Gouarec et Saint-Gelven, pr\u00e8s de l\u2019ancienne abbaye cistercienne, que Christian Labetouille a ouvert <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/chemindeferdebonrepos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">le chemin de fer de Bon-Repos<\/a><\/strong>, pour promener les visiteurs sur quatre kilom\u00e8tres au milieu de la verdure. Christian Labetouille dit lui aussi avoir toujours eu envie de \u00ab&nbsp;faire revivre ce r\u00e9seau&nbsp;qui a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 la Bretagne. Redonner vie aux ateliers, c\u2019est embl\u00e9matique, parce que c\u2019\u00e9tait le c\u0153ur du r\u00e9seau \u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background-color has-text-color
